Ensuring A Healthy Population
During the Healthy Population section of this semester, we learned about how health insurance can help you, or how you can waste tons of money on it. We made characters, and found their age, name, gender, and what they had a risk for. The options for that were diabetes, Cancer, Heart Disease. And Organ Transplant. We learned a lot about chance and making predictions. For example, we would get a problem about dice and have to make a prediction of what number you would get, and then we would roll the dice and see how many times we got that number.
The central problem of this section was “What is a fair price to charge for health insurance?” I think that people should have to pay based off of there yearly income and risk of getting certain diseases. This way people would all pay a fair price and not have to pay fore other people.

Pattern Unit
In this unit, we learned many things. They included the graph families (square root family, quadratic family, absolute value family, and the cubic family), parent and child functions, in/out tables, sigma, calculator programing, graphing, variable expressions, and patterns. I really liked learning about patterns because it was really fun. For example, on some of the POW’s we did, we had to find patterns in order to find the answers. Even though it was challenging at times, I know it’s going to help me in the future, and we learned them in engaging ways that will definitely stick in my head.
I think that math is really important to learn even if it doesn’t have a “big” role in your career or anything because it is important to know. I think the way we are learning it at Animas is really good because I actually remember the things we learn and I am doing much better on test this year than I have in the past two years.
